Do you often see a crescent moon icon on your iPhone status bar or in Messages? That’s because it represents a feature called Do Not Disturb.
Do Not Disturb is a feature that stops all notifications and alerts from popping up on your device. Moreover, it also stops your phone from vibrating and making sounds.
Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is a great way to stop distractions on your iPhone, like calls, text messages and alarm alerts. It ensures you get a few minutes to yourself, so that you can focus on what matters most.
It can be turned on and off at any time, or you can schedule it to automatically turn on and off at certain times each day. This can be helpful if you have a busy schedule and want to avoid distractions, or if you’re using a work iPhone and need it to turn off after a specified period of time.
To enable Do Not Disturb on an iPhone, just swipe up from the home screen and tap the crescent-moon icon in the control center. You can also enable it in the Settings menu.
You can also set Do Not Disturb to turn on automatically at specific times, such as late in the evening, at the end of a calendar event, or when you leave a specific location. It can even be activated when you enter a particular room or area of a building, to help you relax.
When Do Not Disturb is enabled, all notifications and calls are automatically silenced. However, you’ll still be able to make outbound calls, texts and emails. You’ll also be able to check your notifications through Notification Center.
Some people find that Do Not Disturb can be annoying, especially when it’s on during their day. If this is the case, you may need to tweak your setting to better suit your needs.
One thing to keep in mind is that Do Not Disturb is only effective if your phone’s screen is locked. If your iPhone is unlocked, it will continue to receive calls and notifications, which can be frustrating.
You can customize your Do Not Disturb mode to let some people through, but not others. This is a good option if you have children or friends who you want to be able to call you in an emergency, such as when they’re ill.
You can also add exceptions to your Do Not Disturb settings, so that you’ll still be able to receive messages from important contacts. You can choose to allow only calls from people in your Favorites list, or only those who have called you before.
Hide Alerts
If you are a user of the Messages app, you may notice that there is a half moon icon next to your conversations. This is an iOS feature that signifies that you have disabled notifications for a specific conversation.
This is a great feature for users who are constantly receiving messages from one or more contacts. You can disable notifications from any chat thread or group chat without affecting the rest of the iMessage app.
You can also hide text messages from a particular contact on an iPhone. This will prevent other people from noticing that you are having a back-and-forth conversation with them over and over again, which is something that might be a bit confusing if you’re not used to it.
While you are still in the Messages app, swipe left on the chat you want to hide notifications from and tap on the Hide Alerts option that looks like a purple bell with a line cutting it. Doing this will hide all the alerts from that chat thread, and you won’t see them on your iPhone.
Some people are concerned that they will miss important messages from a person who is on Hide Alerts. However, this is not always the case.
To find out if the recipient has read your messages, check to see if the Half Moon icon is blue or gray. If it’s gray, this means that the person has opened and read your messages. If it’s blue, this means that they haven’t read your messages yet.
Alternatively, you can turn on Do Not Disturb for that contact or group to silence all notifications from them. When you turn on DND, the Half Moon icon will no longer appear next to the chats, and you won’t receive any notifications from that contact or group.
If you’re not sure if a person has enabled Hide Alerts, look for the time between their responses to your messages to grow longer. This is an indication that they have enabled this feature, but it’s not a guarantee.
If you’re not sure if he or she has enabled Hide Alerts, try hiding the text alert from that particular chat and see how it goes. You can even use a prank to try and trick someone into revealing that they have Hidden Alerts turned on, but you need to be a little careful about this as it might get them in trouble.
Hide Notifications
Whether you are a business owner or simply like to keep up with your schedule, getting notifications at the wrong time can be a nuisance. But with the iPhone, you can delay notifications and get them at a later time.
One way to do this is with the iPhone’s Notification Summary feature, which summarizes notifications for apps that you use most often. This lets you prioritize a list of notifications in order of importance, and then deliver them at a specific time each day, based on your schedule.
Another way to hide notifications on an iPhone is by using Do Not Disturb. This can be helpful if you are in an area that may not be able to take a call, or if you just want to avoid distractions while you’re working.
When you turn on Do Not Disturb, you’ll see an icon at the top of your Messages app that looks like a half moon. This icon means that you’ve muted the notification for that contact or conversation, and you won’t be notified of new messages in that conversation until you unmute it.
You can also hide alerts for a single person on an iPhone. This is useful if you want to ensure that you do not receive any alerts for a particular person, or if you’d prefer that they not be able to see your personal information or photos.
The best way to hide alerts on an iPhone is to enable Do Not Disturb for a contact or group, and then tap on the bell icon to mute any alerts that come through. This will make it so that you won’t be notified of any calls or text messages that come through from that person, and will not show up on your Lock Screen or in your Notification Center.
However, this is not a secure method of hiding notifications on an iPhone, as it still lets people see your private information. If you’d like to avoid this from happening, try putting your phone into Focus mode instead. It will disable all incoming calls and text messages from everyone, but you’ll be able to still view your messages.
Focus Mode
Focus Mode is a feature in iOS that lets you silence notifications, but still let certain apps and contacts contact you. It’s great for when you want to get some work done or focus on something, but don’t want the distraction of constant alerts from apps and friends.
To enable Focus Mode, open Settings and tap on Focus. Here you’ll find a number of presets to choose from, such as Driving, Gaming or Reading, as well as the option to customize your focus and link a lock screen.
You’ll also be able to customize what types of notifications you’d like to receive during your Focus, as well as how and when you want them to appear. There are also options to hide notification badges on home screen apps and dim the lock screen.
Apple has also added a Share Focus Status feature, which enables people to see that you have notifications silenced when they try to message or call you using apps like Messages. This makes it easier for them to understand that you’re busy and will likely be unable to respond at the time they need to.
Alternatively, you can turn this off if you don’t want people to know that you have notifications silenced. This will keep them from trying to push through the filter and notify you if they think an incoming message is important enough to bypass the focus mode and reach you.
One of the best things about Focus is that you can set it up to automatically switch on and off based on certain events. For example, you can create a Focus for work that’ll be activated when you arrive at work and then turned off when you leave. This is a great way to make sure you’re not forgetting to turn on Focus when you’re supposed to be working.
You can also share your Focus across devices, which means that it will automatically activate on all linked Apple devices. Just ensure that your device has iCloud activated and the Share Across Devices option is enabled.
