F. | Packet Loss Rate Prediction Using the Sparse Basis Prediction Model read moreAbstract: The quality of multimedia communicated through the Internet is highly sensitive to packet loss. In this letter, we develop a time-series prediction model for the end-to-end packet loss rate (PLR). The estimate of the PLR is needed in several transmission control mechanisms such as the TCP-friendly congestion control mechanism for UDP traffic. In addition, it is needed to estimate the amount of redundancy for the forward error correction (FEC) mechanism. An accurate prediction would therefore be very valuable. We used a relatively novel prediction model called sparse basis prediction model. It is an adaptive nonlinear prediction approach, whereby a very large dictionary of possible inputs are extracted from the time series (for example, through moving averages, some nonlinear transformations, etc.). Only few of the very best inputs among the dictionary are selected and are combined linearly. An algorithm adaptively updates the input selection (as well as updates the weights) each time a new time sample arrives in a computationally efficient way. | | | Lee, S. | A Study on Dielectric Constants of <formula formulatype="inline"> <tex>${rm Epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$</tex></formula> Composite for Embedded Capacitor Films (ECFs) read moreAbstract: ${rm Epoxy/BaTiO}_{3}$ composites have been of great interest as embedded capacitor materials, mainly due to high dielectric constant of ceramic powders, and good process compatibility of epoxy with printed circuit boards (PCBs). However, one of the potential problems of ${rm epoxy/BaTiO}_{3}$ composite is the dielectric relaxation at gigahertz range. In this paper, ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite embedded capacitor films (ECFs) were fabricated for high-frequency applications. Dielectric constants of ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite embedded capacitor films with various ${rm SrTiO}_{3}$ particles loading for three different commercial ${rm SrTiO}_{3}$ powders were measured, and experimental data were fitted to the Lichtenecker equation for the prediction of the effective dielectric constant of ${rm SrTiO}_{3}$ powders in ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite ECFs. Using a rectangular cavity resonator method, dielectric constants of ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite ECFs were measured at gigahertz range (1–10 GHz). At gigahertz frequencies, dielectric constants of ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite ECFs were nearly constant. In contrast, ${rm epoxy/BaTiO}_{3}$ composite ECFs showed decrease of dielectric constants above 5 GHz. Therefore, it is concluded that ${rm epoxy/SrTiO}_{3}$ composite ECFs can be more effectively to be applied for hi-

To have all these characteristics, a novel antenna operating as a radiator, a harmonic tuning circuit, and an output matching network of the power amplifier is proposed. Therefore, the direct integration of the output of the power amplifier and antenna can be achieved without any impedance transformers. From the measured results and fabrication, it is shown that the proposed transmitter front-end provides high PAE of 67.5% and compact and integrated RF-front structure by the size reduction of 43% compared with the conventional class-F active antenna for high PAE. | | | Kim, H. | A Low Phase Noise <formula formulatype="inline"> <tex>$LC$</tex></formula> VCO in 65 nm CMOS Process Using Rectangular Switching Technique read moreAbstract: A low phase noise and low power $LC$ voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) has been designed using a 65-nm CMOS process. The phase noise is minimized by switching the differential core using a rectangular shaped voltage waveform, which is formed by a harmonic tuned $LC$ tank assisted by a ${g}_{m3}$ boosting circuit. The ${g}_{m3}$ boosting circuit effectively maximizes the slope at the zero crossing point and reduces the transition time in which the switching transistor is operated at the triode region. The rectangular switching technique has improved the phase noise of the oscillator by 10 dB. The 450 $mu$ m $times$ 540 $mu$ m chip consumes 4.34 mW. The proposed VCO has phase noises of $-$83.3, $-$110.7, and $-$131.8 dBc/Hz at 10 KHz, 100 KHz, and 1 MHz offset frequencies, respectively, from the 1.6-GHz carrier frequency.
