Reading List

Default Configuration:
By default, when ever a new article is added to your library, it is also added to your reading list.

Managing Reading List 
To add an article to your reading list, click on  icon in the library view.
To remove an article from your reading list, click on  icon in the library view

Viewing Reading List
To view articles in your reading list, Go to ”library” view and from the “Sort By” drop down menu, click on “Reading List”. This will sort articles into two groups: articles that are “on” and “not on” your reading list. To reverse the sorting order, again click on “Sort by Reading List”.

Dynamic Tag Cloud

Are you a rolling stone that gathers no moss? Not sure. Using Memento’s dynamic tag cloud feature, now its simple to see how your interest has changed over time.

Note the tag cloud is based on keywords that you specifically added to articles that are in your library.

To access dynamic tag cloud feature:

  1. Log in to your memento account 
  2. go to your library  view
  3. Click on “Keywords” tab and click on “Dynamic Tag cloud link”

Memento Firefox Addon

Now managing your memento library gets even easier. Download this Memento FireFox toolbar to add articles while surfing the web or search for articles available in Memento

Firefox Add

Features:

1. Add/Import Button: Memento can import articles directly from many websites and online journals. If you are one of those websites, the Add button gets highlighted (with green color plus icon), indicating you can import article from this website. Just click on the button to add article to your memento library. If you are on any other website that is not supported by Memento, the button gets disabled.

2. Search: Use the text box to enter your query and click on the “search” icon. If you want to search based on author name or keyword, then use the drop down menu  and click on “Author” or “Keyword”. By default, the search function tries to find articles based on title.

3. Memento Icon: Clicking on memento icon allows you to navigate either to memento homepage or to this blog

Installing Firefox Addon:
1. Click on “Download button” above and save the file on your desktop
2. Start firefox and click on File > Open File. Browse to desktop and select mementotoolbar.xpi
3. Restart the firefox and there should be a new toolbar for Memento (as shown in the above image)

Uninstalling Firefox Extension:
1. Start firefox and Click on “Tools” > “Addon”
2. In the popup menu, search for “Memento Toolbar”.
3. Select “Memento Toolbar” in the popup menu and click on “uninstall” button
4. Restart firefox and the memento toolbar should be gone.
Note: if you don’t want to uninstall but only hide the toolbar, then right click on an empty space  in any of the toolbar you have and uncheck “Memento toolbar” from the context menu (or popup). This will only remove the toolbar but won’t uninstall it. So if you in future you need the toolbar, you can again right click on any empty space on any toolbar and check “Memento Toolbar”.

Memento plugin for Word 2007

Now there is a Memento plugin for Word 2007. Without ever leaving word, search, view and import articles from Memento website. The plugin will import articles to your word bibliography manager. Using bibliography manager, you can easily cite articles while you write. See below for requirements and instructions for installing and using this plugin.

Requirements for installing Memento Plugin for Word 2007

  1. Windows XP/Vista
  2. Office 2007
  3. Primary Interop for Office 2007 - download from here
  4. * Windows Installer 3.1 - download from here
  5. * .Net 3.5 - download from here
  6. * Visual Studio Tools for Office 2007 - download from here

* - if not already installed on your machine, they will be automatically downloaded and installed by the Memento plugin setup utility.

Installing Memento Plugin

  1. Make sure you have downloaded and Installed Primary Interop for Office 2007before installing Memento Plugin
  2. Download Memento plugin from here
  3. Unizp the package on desktop
  4. Run the setup.exe file. It requires windows installer 3.1, .Net 3.5 and VSTO. If not installed, the setup will ask for your permission to install them. Click “Accept” if the dialog box seeking your permission appears.
  5. Once installed, open word. As show in the above figure, there should be memento add-in on the right side of the word

Known issues

  1. Sometime while installing “installer 3.1″, the system will give an error. Try restarting your machine and again running the setup utility. The problem should get solved
  2. If your system does not have windows installer 3.1, .Net 3.5 and VSTO, Memento plugin will download all of them for you. But this will increase installation significantly, depending your machine and internet connection speed. But let the installation program keep running. Eventually, everything should get installed properly.

Using the Plugin

  1. Search for any term and the add-in will fetch results from Memento website
  2. Click on any article to see its details in the preview box below
  3. Select one or more articles from the list and click on the “Import” button. This will import articles details from memento website and add it to your Microsoft bibliography manager
  4. Now to cite articles in your document and to create a bibliography, go to “References” Tab of Word and click “Insert citation” and you should be able to see articles that you imported from Memento.

Disabling the plugin

  1. Click on the “Start” button (Circular button with windows icon) in word
  2. Click on “word options”
  3. Click on “Add-ins” in the left hand panel
  4. At the bottom of the right hand panel there will be a drop down menu labeled as “Manage”. Select “COM Add-ins” from the drop down menu and click on “Go”
  5. In the Popup menu, Select “MementoPane” and click on “Remove” to uninstall the add-in. To disable it just uncheck the box infront of “MementoPane” and click on “Ok”. The plugin will disappear once you restart Word.
